What originally attracted you to athletic endurance events?
I started with running 30 years ago (middle distance 400 and 800 meters)

Why RAAM? To see what a person that started cycling at age 50 can achieve

Ironman Europe (Roth 1990). I was better than I thought I could ever be.

When you first heard of RAAM did you ever think you would one day enter the race? 15 years ago I heard already about it - My first thought was I will do it alone with 40 years!!!!!

What were your first thoughts when learning of RAAM?

What preparation have you employed to prepare for RAAM (in general terms):
Between 1000 and 2000 km on the bike. In February 2 weeks Training Camp in Spain (the whole team)

Competition for more than one day

What attracts you the most about RAAM?
Traffic in the cities

What were your first thoughts when learning of RAAM?

No, because it wasn't a team event at that time. There were only solo participants allowed. Nevertheless, I was strongly impressed and fascinated

Special training plan for the last 12 months before RAAM

What originally attracted you to athletic endurance events?
Starting with endurance sport was pure coincidence. Running the middle distance (1500 m) was 14 was quite successful so I stuck with it.

Why RAAM?
The right challenge at the right time

What is your personal most cherished athletic feat, and why?
Team winner European Duathlon (Run&Bike) Championship in Madrid 1991. Although we were placed as complete underdogs we managed to win.

Doping sucks

Who, above all, is your greatest sporting inspiration? Why?
Dave Scott, Mr. Triathlon himself. The way he impacted on Hawaii an especially his successful comeback after a serious injury.

When you first heard of RAAM, did you ever think you would one day enter the race? What were your first thoughts after learning about RAAM?
First thought? Crazy - they're just crazy.

What is your ultimate athletic goal?
I don't feel to have (or must have) an ultimate goal anymore. But a good challenge like RAAM gets my heart pumping

What is the obstacle in the way of you reaching your ultimate athletic goal?
Myself! Only if you can dream it, you can do it

Team spirit and adventure
